I wouldn't say I am a Type A personality, but I would say I have an inner Type A persona that just can't quite break out. I absolutely love a good chore chart, to-do list, or organized pantry! It just makes my heart so happy! But it seems I can never find ones that are organized that way I like AND in a design that I like, so I often make my own. My kids can attest to the number of chore charts we've used over the years! haha
And now with the looming prospect of my kids (ages 8,10,12) being home from school indefinitely, I started looking to see how I could alter our current chore chart to reflect our temporary home school situation. I saw a daily schedule floating around the internet by Jessica McHale Photography that I really liked, but I need to adjust it slightly. I thought I would share my version here. Along with a few other things I've made over the years that might come in handy if you're also in a temporary home school situation.
Temporary Home School Daily Schedule
My kids attend public school and are very accustomed to a daily schedule, so if we can strike a balance between that schedule and our home schedule, that will be best. Fingers crossed we can make this work!
Fitness Activity Challenge
My chore charts tended to focus more on personal and household responsibilities, and last summer I realized we really needed to get more active. And my kids are always up for a challenge! This download is designed for three people, but the downloaded version has areas where you can write in your own challenges and prizes.
Earn Screen Time
We used to let the kids do 30 minutes of "screen time" a day and then and one hour on the weekend. But during the week, it started becoming a challenge and we noticed some concerning behavior after they finished their screen time. So we made the decision to take away all screen time during the week, and they could earn time for the weekend. And if they met a certain goal, they could get unlimited (within reason) screen time.
Weekly Chore List
Standard weekly chore list. I've left some blank areas for you to add your own chores to the list.
File a Formal Complaint
I can't take credit for this one -- this was all my husband's idea. I just formalized the actual printable. It works on several levels:
1) forces angered child to take time to calm down while they fill out form
2) child gets extra handwriting practice
3) gives parent time to decide on if a punishment is in order
4) child's full opinion can be expressed and sometimes that's all it takes for them to be okay about whatever the situation is
